From 26 to 28 September around 30 QFAS members and Friends enjoyed a sunny weekend at our Autumn Conference at the Ammerdown Centre, near Radstock in Somerset. With the First World War, Quakers and Spiritualism as our general theme, we heard fascinating plenary presentations by David and Rachel Britton, and by Cherry Simpkin. We also enjoyed discussing our own spiritual experiences in smaller workshops.
A discussion led by Angela Howard on Friday evening brought forth many ideas for future activities, which the QFAS committee are now considering (here is the text of Angela’s presentation). The conference also agreed a Minute that can be shared with Quaker Meetings to help raise awareness of the fact that many Quakers feel unable to discuss spiritual matters in their local Meetings. We are saddened to hear this, especially as we believe that a religious society needs to both acknowledge and welcome the sharing of religious and spiritual experience among its members.
